I was concerned at first. The lobby, although it had quaint furniture and chandeliers which brought to mind many older European hotels I've visited,... sort of lost credibility points with the chaos and disrepair of the front desk. With it's completely visible inner workings, casually dressed staff and beat up mail cubicles, it gave the distinct impression of an SRO or transient - cash only type of motel. So I went to my room with a bad attitude. (But don't stop reading yet). I saw the room as creepy because of the older furniture, and lack of puffy white duvet I've been seeing in the more modernly designed hotels. But after awhile, I just took it for what it was. It's an older hotel. Not part of a big chain and it was actually just fine. It was clean and comfortable. The staff were actually very nice. The elevator was always available and got me to the top floor incredibly fast. The toiletries were very nice. The mini bar was the least expensive in San Francisco, the location was good, the hotel was quiet. All in all, I can't say I have any complaints. I just had an odd initial reaction. Once again, it's not a modern chain so it doesn't have new flat screen tvs with all the cable channels, and jet tubs. In fact it only had a stall shower.
