Forgetable experience

Fun location, limited pet friendly, inconsistent rules

Room was grubby. The hotel is in a poor state of repair. It is a shame as the hotel is in great location. We will not stay here again.

Very convenient location super sized old hotel. The room quality is just like a $49.99 motel with spooky ghost coming out atmospheric. Completely black stained carpet, 100 times layered painted wall and never renewed furniture since Presley & Sinatra's age. Surprisingly did not have odor or yucky hair found on the floor so room made are working hard. […] Somehow there were so many French people staid same time on my visit and I remember the hotels in Paris just like this but much cheaper. This hotel has got to be one of the best bargins in NYC . It has plenty of rooms, a good breakfast, right in the middle of everything. Its an older hotel, but clean.

Booked 5 nights in this hotel and since we had stayed b4 decided to upgrade the room to the Penn 5000. Initially we were not thrilled with our room but all it took was a trip back to reception to explain that the room we were offered was not at all what we had booked based on the website. This was the third time my wife and I booked the Hotel Penn through Hotels.com. The location is fantastic, six blocks from Times Square and the theatre district, across the street from Madison Square Garden. the subway is also across the street. there are coutless options for food in any direction. The bed was comfortable and the maid service was efficient. The refridgerator was convenient. Hotel room was dingy with stained bedspreads and carpet. Light in bathroom wouldn't stay on.

Extremely busy hotel with staff less than thrilled to help. Front desk was far from welcoming. Room was very large (huge with an adjoining room), but barren and stale like a dorm. Not a picture on the wall. Seems tourists probably take whatever is not bolted down, so they have given up on keeping rooms nice. I wouldn't stay here again.

This hotel stay was deplorable. Never again.

Dont book through Hotels.com for this hotel, they give you the Worst room imaginable and don't care about it 1 bit

50 minutes to check in, when i arrive the agent toll me that no rooms available even that i pay my in full, i ask for the manager, he never show up. Conveniently located and economically priced

Booked 2 rooms that were supposed to have 3 beds in each. They gave us rooms with just 2 beds and said thats all they had. i couldn't find a manager to complain to so we lived with it. Then they charged my credit card for the parking afer I paid cash.

Centrally located, once grand, now a bit threadbare, but clean, surprisingly quiet and oh, so convenient.

Unfortunately, this is the only hotel in Manhattan being central, so convenient across the street from Penn station, always having available rooms (so huge !) with a reasonable price. If you are able to pay more, change and go for big brand hotels in the area.... But if you are there for one to 4 nights, don't want to blow up your budget and want to […] go out all the time, the hotel will provide you with a shelter. No service at all, employees are very rude, and more particularly we noticed with foreign tourists (we are not) The hotel is very old and need deep renovations, the bathrooms are from ages. it is as possible as it could be clean, but they cannot do miracles with so antics ! A lot could be improved with minimum investment, as the long line at the check in around 3 pm every day, 3 people at the desk, hundred of tourists not understanding a word, with huge luggage and the whole family in the queue....A simple labeling saying to prepare ID or passport, plus a credit card with the booking #, one person in the line for checking in the family would change the hours lost for everybody. Is it so complicated ? Also, we found the fees for a simple hand bag left in the luggage room exaggerated ! We paid for 2 small bags for the afternoon in the hotel the same elevated price as people with huge boxes and enormous suitcases for the whole day (they don't give tips because they don't know how to proceed in America). I would avoid this hotel like the plague if I were you. First, the hotel room smelled like someone had just been smoking it it (so did my friend's room) even though we ordered non-smoking rooms. We asked for new rooms; same story. Second, the hallways and interior are a disaster. They look like they haven't been touched up in 30 years. Third, the bathroom […] hadn't been renovated in 30 years either. While everything worked okay, the water pressure was crazy. It almost knocked me over the first time I got into the shower. Hotel is old, but reasonably clean. It is an excellent location for anything around Madison Square Gardens. Penn station subway stop on same block as well. Great location. My kids and I went to NY for a quick site seeing tour of NY. The hotel was a close to the subway, and had shopping options within walking distance. The Empire State Building is in view of the hotel! Times Square was about seven blocks away along with most of the Broadway shows! The hotel lobby was nice. hotel is in the thick of things. Something ought to be done to alleviate the huge crowd at checkout & checking. You need to put more info.about other facilities available at or thru the hotel on the internet so as to avoid great & embarassing moments for guests on arrival at Du Pont circle.

Hotel Pennsylvania is set in a very convenient location (close to Madison Square Gardens, Macy's, Empire State Building and Times Square) for New York. The service was good and is a good place to stay if you're not fussy about the look of the room. I definitely recommend it for anyone who wants to be in the centre of NYC!

Good for the price good if your going to see a show or game nothing special room doors look like bunker which was kinda funny great for if you juat need a cheep bed to crash on

Loved, loved, loved the convenience of the Hotel Penn. Right by Penn Station for catching the subway - across the street from Madison Square Garden and a block away from Macy's! BUT...the rooms are mediocre (at best), the lobby and hallways are dim. The service is so - so. I am surprised how the authorities have continued to issue permits to operate this hotel. This is just about the dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed. Lots of people had warned that rooms were in bad condition & the only thing good was its location. I can tell you that after that harrowing experience, the location doesn't matter at all. There was a rat […] in the room & the carpets can't get more dirty. I had asked for two double beds & they gave me two twin beds and said that is all they give. A roll-in came after five hours almost close to mid-night. Even an employee said that everyone gets angry at them but the owners run their business without any remorse. NEVER STAY HERE. My flight was cancelled from Los Angeles to New York, and the Hotel Pennsylvania would not budge on giving me a credit. I travel to New York at least 3x/year and could have used the credit or voucher during an off-peak time. Plus, I cancelled my reservations when it was Spring Break so I know that they didn't have any problems re-filling the reservation. […] Oh well, from what I saw on the outside when I was in New York, it didn't look a very comfortable stay anyways. I paid a 5-star rate for a room that's worse than a cheap motel room. The building, the interior, the furniture, everything is dirty and old. The shower has no water pressure. You cannot expect any service from a giant over-crowded hotel like this. This was certainly my worst hotel experience ever.

Nice hotel and convenient to everything. Room and bathroom clean and confortable. No complaints. There is a baggage holding area for a small fee which makes it convenient to check out levae you bag and come back for the bag.
