The photos of this hotel make it out to be nicer than it is, however, it isn't horrible. The location is great and within walking distance to lots of good restaurants (AGAVE is the best). Good for single or double occupants. No good for a family though.

Helpful staff

Hotel Ruby' was a pleasant surprise. The rooms,while not huge, were comfortable and the beds were great. The breakfasts were good and the coffee fresh. The staff was friendly and very helpful. I appreciated that we could park and walk anywhere. I would definitely stay there again.

I am squeamish about cleanliness and was pleased that the bed and bedding, counters, coffee pot, etc all seemed to be clean and fresh. However, this building is very old and noisy and still has the original bones (bathtubs, windows, walls) still intact, with a wash of bright paint and artwork over the top. It is sad that they didn't spend a few extra […] dollars and insulate, soundproof and "finish" the remodel job properly. Perhaps if they had, it would have earned a 3.5 star rating and charged higher rates, so it is all relative. Overall, the location is not posh, but certainly an easy hike to anywhere you need to get downtown. The parking is super tight and woefully inadequate. The in-room equipment seems to be half working (they advertised the ipod docking station, but it was not working) and others mentioned remotes without batteries, etc. The beds were surprisingly comfortable, but I was awakened by the garbage truck, conversations outside and regular trains thundering by. We spent 2 nights at the Ruby on a long weekend and had a nice stay. The room was nice and everything about the king bed was fantastic, the bed, bedding and pillows very comfy. The washroom could use an update, older but clean, and there could definitely be more parking. Overall a nice place to stay in the heart of downtown spokane, will probably visit […] it again. We had a wonderful stay last year, but the addition of the Sapphire Lounge made our stay this year just that much better!! Love the fact that breakfast is included, and the Lounge has some of the best cocktails we've ever tasted. Looking forward to coming to Spokane again!!

Noisy rooms, very little soundproofing. No soap/shampoo left in room but was promptly provided some when asked for. Cool bar off the lobby. It is a renovated old motel, cramped rooms with odd bathroom layout, sink in the room not in the bathroom. Great location, ok at best for the price. Will not probably stay again.

The Hotel Ruby is conveniently located near all downtown attractions (theatres, shopping, Riverside Park, restaurants, etc.). The woman at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. The room was clean and satisfactory for our one night stay, but we would consider staying here again for a weekend getaway.

I enjoyed how close out hotel was to the Concert hall and downtown, but had no idea it was a MOTEL. My impression was that we were in an enclosed building, not a pull up to your front door kind of place. Anyway, limited parking and not a hotel, but very clean and close to what we needed.

I would not recommend this place unless your a college age person who likes to party. Was loud till 3 a.m., partying in the parking lot, running back and forth around the outside hallway. Lots of drunk kids. Really kind of scary. Parking lot is small, first come first serve, and you couldn't sleep waiting for your car alarm to go off. They have tried […] fixing up the rooms but they're small. Bed was comfortable if you were calm enough to sleep. Downstairs bar is nice. Great price for the location. Artwork in rooms and elsewhere nice touch. Could you a little touching up, and rooms are small, but it's inexpensive with a great location.

Initially we thought the hotel looked pretty funkified but after one night realized it is just an old motel at heart. It was cold and the heater was loud and bathroom had no heat. The bar was pretty cool though. We stayed 2 nights then opted for the Montvale - more money but worth it. Great location though!

I am some what of a regular here this being my fifth stay in a couple years. This time I got a room with one bed as this was a date night without the kid along. It was definitely not as nice. I really didn't like the fact that my room had a door to the adjoining room with just a dinky little cupboard latch. My husband thought it was the closet and walked […] right into the other room. Yes it was occupied! This room was very small and had one cup for water, coffee, everything. It was a lot noisier than any of the previous rooms. We were able to hear everyone walking up and down stairs and along the balcony. The sheets were stained with ink and the room didn't smell the best either. However we will stay again and just ask to not be in that room as the other rooms were better. The staff is very nice and the location is perfect for concerts at the Knit. Don't be fooled by the photos! This is a renovated Rodeway inn. There is minimal soundproofing, so you can hear your neighbors snoring and toilets flushing all over the place. The neighborhood is convenient for walking, dining and shopping, but it's pretty noisy, so the lack of soundproofing is really an issue at night. Not at all a 3 star place. Dirty and very poor customer service.

I recently spent 3 nights at the Ruby and really enjoyed the stay. It is a remodel of an old Roadway Inn so the rooms are a bit small and the bathrooms aren't too fancy, but when i travel i dont spend too much time in the rooms so these minor details didnt bother me. The room had all new furniture, paint, art, and a nice flat panel tv and really had […] a fun boutique hotel feel to it. I'd definitely stay here again. we attended a concertn at the knitting factory and we walked from the hotel. The room was very clean and the heater worked great. will definately stay again.

The hotel overall was clean and decent, the three complaints that I have are: 1. While they say "Hotel" it was clearly a "Motel" and with it being 20 degrees outside I wasn't prepared to haul our luggage up three flights of stairs in the freezing cold. And just to be clear, I don’t mind motels, really, I just wasn’t expecting this place to be that. 2. […] There is only parking for maybe 12 vehicles and then the overflow parking is two blocks away. The location was good, right downtown, but it was right next to a couple of bars that were really loud. The free parking was great, but their parking lot was way to small. I had to park at a parking lot a block away during the night. The free breakfast was good and lounge area was nice.

They were trying to be cool,with the decor and paintings on the walls outside the building depicting theater related themes and is in the theatre district in Spokane, such as it is But--the door lock didn't work well, in fact one day when we returned to the hotel the door was not locked at all. It is more an old motel than hotel. Noisy, could hear everything […] outside and next door. Beds hard, pillows uncomfortable. Was clean and location convenient, but I would not stay here again. This place was great. Right in the heart of downtown Spokane it allowed for easy access to surrounding businesses. The rooms were nice and clean, breakfast was good and all for a great price! I highly recommend Hotel Ruby.

This hotel was great. It's a renovated old hotel (motel?) with lots of character. The renovations are good, but it retains some of the old "charm." The bathroom still has it's original tile and tub, and isn't very large. I could see that grating on some people, but I think it's all part of the charm of the place. This hotel is right in the heart of downtown, only a short block away from the concert venue. The room we had was very small but the bed was comfortable. The wall heater/air conditioner cycled on and off all night loudly which interrupted sleep often. The neighborhood here is a bit seedy but we felt secure in our room. Great location and very clean- bathrooms could be updated-tub was very shallow and toilet made a huge noise-but clean,clean, clean!

This is a fine little hotel in downtown Spokane. It is nothing amazing but it was clean, comfortable and convenient. If i am back in the area I will likely be staying here.

Hotel was a great stat. Very modern close to everything you could want. Their in house sapphire Lounge was awesome as well. Great staff and service. Except the guy who works grave yard.. Overall definite 4 stars.

The batteries in the TV remote were dead, but other than that, everything was fine.....

This is a made-over Motel 6 essentially. It's had a pretty good face lift with modern colors and furnishings. Some of its age still remains, shotty tile in tub surround, mold spots on ceiling in shower, painted-over wallpaper, that sort of thing. It was actually nicer/cleaner than I expected and the housekeeping was very friendly and provided the additional […] items we needed. It had modern furnishings and paint, updated carpeting. Really the age only showed in the bathroom area. Our room had the original tub, tile and sink - although the vanity was new but with a really ugly color of laminate. The toilet was new, floor tile was old. There was another sink in the main room that was new with a nice laminate. Had a 2 person coffee pot, microwave and mini fridge, iron, small closet, flat-screen tv and cushy bed. Air/heat unit under window that was new and provided whatever level of comfort you could need. The King Size bed was very comfortable and provided a great nights rest. The Hotel is also close to the several great restaurants and handy to the Riverbank Park and walking trails. Rooms are compact, but serve the purpose.

it was great we could park in a designated area under the hotel..and that restaurants and the concert venue was all on the same block!

This place used to be a big drug motel, apparently, and it still kinda feels like that. Not quiet due to proximity to street and two bars, industrial hvac fans on neighboring building that kick on every 15 minutes, and you're basically a thin door away from people walking by. Hair on bathroom floor and towel - gross. Nice sheets though. It's an ok place […] if you just need a place to crash after going out drinking. WHAT WAS WRONG: I was disappointed with the hotel when I arrived. All photographs on-line were close-ups and gave a different perception of the facilities than when viewed from the street, up close and personel. The hotel is, I believe, three stories, with all rooms being accessed from outside doors and balconies. The parking area at the hotel is small […] and rather cramped and on a "first come - first serve" basis. If the immediate area is full you park in another lot about 1/2 a block away and you must move the car from that lot by 11:00 the next morning. The room was nicely decorated but the building is old and there was an odor in the room that I associate with an old carpet that has had a powdered cleaner/deoderizer sprinkled and then vacumed from it. It appeared to have clean bedding, towels, counters, and sinks...but I checked the bottom of my feet after walking around barefoot and the soles of my feet were dirty from the carpet. I wiped them with a wet washcloth and there was no mistaking it. The floor of the bathroom was like a lenolium (sp?) type of material..dark color...making it hard to determine whether it was clean or not. Tub was small...maybe 1 1/2 ft tall sides and the commode was a type you'd see in a public gas station. The noise of people laughing and talking out on the streets and sidewalks late at night was easily heard inside the room. WHAT WAS RIGHT: We got a great price...which off-set the negatives to a degree. The hotel employees were great! Very warm and friendly and very helpful. The water pressure was good and the shower heads were of good quality...making showering enjoyable. They showed Charlie Chaplin silent movies on the brick wall of the building beside the motel and that was fun to see. We were told that the area was very safe and there did seem to be a number of people walking around after dark. It was downtown and a great location for walking and visiting stores during the day. It looks like the hotel was remodeled from a not-so-nice hotel of the past, but the remodeling was not done throroughly. Not enough parking for every guest!

Overall this motel has a great location. The bathtub had 3 long hairs in it which was a bit of a turn off. The hotel is actually a motel as you access the rooms from an outside balcony. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the linens were a great quality. I would stay here again.
