The hotel is older and the bathroom's and TV's show it, so if thats what matters to you don't book here. The food, staff, showes and activites were great. It leans towards a younger drinking crowd. Which we enjoyed. It was a fun place. I would go back again.

This was a great trip it was for my 40th birthday I stayed in Barcelo' in Costa Rica It was a beautiful place the puerta plata resort needs some TLC in needs to be updated the beds are too small and uncomfortable ! But the restaurant in the evening are great they baked me a cake and sang for my birthday !

We stayed at Barcelo in early April. We found the check in to be busy as a lot of people showed up at the same time however the front desk staff appeared to do their best to be as efficient as possible. They were very courteous to us and answered any questions we had satisfactorily. The hotel is dated and maybe could use a few renovations but it is […] well kept and the staff are very friendly. There are five ala carte restaurants of various ethnicity's on the property and a buffet as well. The buffet is stocked with a large variety of foods and it was easy to find something appetizing. The hotel supplies towels for use at the pool or beach. These towels are acquired by giving your towel card, that you get on check in, and then getting your towel card back when you return the towel. These towels can be hard to come by unless you get one first thing in the morning when the towel kiosk opens. There is nightly entertainment at the hotel that is quite good if you enjoy music and dance acts. We found them to be very well done. Over all the hotel is good value and a very short distance from the beach. The beach is very nice with sand that does not have lots of rocks. The ocean bottom here is very nice and sandy. There aren't a lot of "activities" included with your stay like most all-inclusive, not even snorkeling or any other beach activities. The food is mediocre at best. I wouldn't call it "bad" but just nothing to brag about.

Front desk service was a HUGE turn off. Slow moving lines and not enough people behind the desk. The male receptionists were quite rude and seemed annoyed. Had to wait an extra 30 minutes for a room key.

It was our first experience of the Caribbean and all inclusive hotels, but it was simply great. The location is great, the beach is superb. Every night there is entertainment in the hotel, which is really nice. The waiters were friendly, drinks were cold, the food was delicious and changed thematically from dinner to dinner. Hotel is ok, but some upkeep is required. I went with a group of 25 for a wedding, and we all requested a King bed, only the bride and groom got one, and we were told there weren't any others. The hotel is good and very clean. The bed are uncoftable the food is bad. Also the customer servise of the people that work there is bad it like the emplyees don't want to be there. On the positive note the night shows are great And it has several pools.

We have stayed here twice with groups of 10 people each time. The grounds are kept clean. The beach is very nice. It's a good beach for children in that its shallow (cove) for the first few yards. There are loungers available on the beach. We did get tired of the people constantly soliciting their jewelry, etc. on the beach. The food was just okay this […] time. The buffet dining room is very welcoming - tablecloths, good service for drinks and removal of plates. We did not have a chance to use the other restaurants. It would be nice if there was another snack area during dining off hours. The rooms are adequate in size. We had a problem with our toilet and a maintenance man was there within 30 minutes. Another room had an issue with their shower hot water. Unfortunately this wasn't handled well. After several hours, the issue wasn't fixed. Though they were told it was. Our friends had to move at 11:30 p.m. I do not feel that there was satisfactory customer service regarding this. Our friends asked to move earlier in the evening, they were told there were no rooms available. The hotel was not full. As compensation they were offered an upgrade upon our next visit. Stay was nice, asked for a King size bed, got two twins, was not happy with that. Then transferred over to Club Prime side, everything was good,until it rainned and flooded the room. No problem though, but cant have that room again.

My boyfriend and I booked this trip for a relaxing get away, and we were both pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The beach was fun, but full of locals trying to sell you things, so its worth going to, but got annoying after a day or so. BEST part of this trip was the catamaran tour (be sure to book it through your hotel and not one of the guys on the beach selling them - boat name was FreeStyle - Captain and Crew are great!). Luckily, we upgraded our room to the Club Premium package which was a HUGE blessing because otherwise I can't imagine how crammed we would've been (and it was only 3 girls traveling).
