GENERAL FRANCIS MARION HOTEL - Marion

Excellent value; lots of charm and yet modern convenience. Staff were simply wonderful.

Everything was great...Except my husband ringing the bell to get in after 11pm for over a half hour.... No one came to unlock the door, room key does not open main door after hours...

We stayed in a junior suite, which was not really a suite in the usual sense, just a larger-than-standard room, but we found it to be extremely comfortable, clean and well-appointed. The building possesses a great deal of period charm and nice architectural detail, and the little downtown of Marion was fun to explore (although extremely small). It was very clean and very comfortable. I couldn't get the wireless in my room but it was very late and I decided not to pursue it. It took a little while for the water to heat up but the water pressure was great and when the water heated up it was fine. Can't say enough goods things about this hotel. Very Clean and comfortable.

A wonderfully restored historiic hotel in the miiddle of a small, beautiful town. The hotel is worth seeing for its beauty. Moderate saize room, very clean, comfortable. Highly recommend.

So I arrive to find the receptionist clearly had been drinking. You could smell the alcohol from 5 feet away. The room and hotel itself was very nice. Well maintained and clean. However I was told that they have wireless internet, however they do not. I was told I could access the internet by wire connection, which I could not becuase it was broken […] mthey said. Therefore I could not complete any buisness related work. The bed was a full-size, not a "Luxury Queen" as advertised. The heat within the room was terrble. It automatically shut off after 10 minutes and you had to get up yourself and turn it back on. Therefore I did not get any rest. I chose this hotel because of its rating being much higher than any of the surrounding chain hotels. Everything was fine. The staff was nice and helpful. The room was clean, but pretty simple. I could have sworn that the booking page said I would have a flat screen TV. Instead I had an old CRT. No big deal. When I went for dinner, the host basically […] ignored me for five minutes while I waited to be seated and actually seated a couple immediately when they showed up. The hotel was gorgeous inside and out! Loved it!The only complaint I have is no closet in my room. But I understand in keeping with the 20's feel. The hotel was so warm and inviting. The lounge had wonderful food & drinks. Would stay here again!

The hotel is charming with modern conviences. The staff is very accomodating and the restaurant was wonderful for dinner and more than adequate for the free continental breakfast. Paying a similar rate you would end up in a budget hotel/motel that simply couldn't compare. By all means try this hotel, you won't be disappointed.

Wonderful atmosphere, very clean and comfortable room, good location. Did not eat in their restaurant, so cannot rate it.

While our junior king suite was small, it was very comfortable and adequate. Great bed, 2 nice high-backed chairs and an ottoman to watch tv. Tv was a small old one, but adequate. Breakfast was included, although I had to ask when we checked in, and was a delicious made-to-order waffle (or scrambled eggs). Choice of teas. My husband said the coffee […] was weak. Parking was readily available right near the front of the hotel, as well as the lot in back. There are several restaurants along Main St. We ate lunch at Handsome Molly's, which was quite good. This is a 5 + star hotel. Clean, Superior Staff, Superior Service, Will definitely be there again.

I loved it, I spent a week traveling and this was my last night. I loved it. The staff went out of their way to make my stay wonderful. I watched 2 ladies from the front desk go out into the rain to assist an older gentleman bring in his luggage. All of their service was to that level. We stay here every time we visit Marion (which is often since my brother, niece and SIL live there.) A lovely hotel- always clean with very friendly staff. I was disappointed that they ran out of waffle mix on the first morning and were never able to make more during my 3 days there. Very nice early twentieth century hotel. Nice to see the pride and care taken in restoring and maintaining this historic building. Nice breakfast included with the room rate. Morning front desk service and some evening waitress service were less than friendly. This was kind of the only game in town when it came to a nicer hotel in Marion, but it was just as well. My girlfriend and I stayed here one night on a road trip and had a great time. The hotel is very pretty and historic, and convenient to the dining/nightspots in Marion, such as they are. Recommended.

Pleasant room with dark wood floors and panelling. Roomy bathroom. Excellent gourmet restaurant in lobby. After delicious Sat. night dinner, complimentary Sunday brunch was a disappointment. Hotel is the only bright spot in downtown section of small town with mostly empty store fronts. But close to Appalachian trail and headquarters of National Recreation […] Area.
