This guide shows you the places locals love to eat in Jeju. Jeju Island is characterised by foods that interpret local ingredients in unique ways. Many dishes feature seafood or the famous Jeju black pig without any sort of special seasoning.

Check out the wonderful world of gourmet Jeju dishes made with fresh ingredients, caught by local female sea divers (haenyeo) and round off your day with a nice cup of tea or coffee at one of Jeju’s many seaside cafés. Here are some suggestions on where to find Jeju's best local food scenes that will take your visit on the island to the next level.

    1

    Jamae Giksu

    Sisters Noodles

Jeju is home to a noodle dish rarely seen elsewhere in Korea, the so-called meat noodles (gogi-guksu) served with a topping of pork. Among the many restaurants serving this unique Jeju dish, Sisters Noodles is certainly the most famous.

The most well-known variant has noodles served in a pork broth topped with pork, but there are others that are also topped with pork, like the spicy noodles (bibim-guksu) and anchovy broth noodles (myeolchi-guksu). The best part is that none of these delicious dishes will put a dent in your wallet.

Whichever dish you choose, your order will be served with a mouthwatering side of grilled mackerel. Myeongjin Jeonbok is at a convenient location and perfect for stopping by while out cruising around the island.

    Black pork dishes

Heugdonga is recommended if you want to experience the true taste of Jeju black pork. Thick slices of pork are sprinkled with coarse salt and grilled over charcoal, kicking your appetite into overdrive. Notably, the barbecued pork at Heugdonga is served with a side of salted anchovy dip (myeolchi-jeot), adding a layer of rich flavour to the meat.

While you’re here, be sure to check out the kimchi stew (kimchi-jjigae), which comes brimming with pork for all you meat-lovers.

    Hanseong Omegi Tteok

    Delicious rice cake

At Hanseong Omegi Tteok in Jeju Dongmun Market, you can find delicious rice cake made with Jeju-grown glutinous millet with red beans, legumes, and nuts. Jeju’s very own glutinous millet (omegi) rice cake is very popular as a healthy snack thanks to its sweet yet light flavour.

This place uses domestic red beans unlike many other traditional Korean confectioneries, and because it’s close to the airport, it’s great for a quick stop to pick up some individually-packaged rice cakes that are perfect as a gift or souvenir.
