Snow storm in Portland
After 9 hrs on the road trying to get to the hotel in a blizzard (where I had pre-paid for a room on hotels.com and received an email confirmation of), I arrived at 1 am only to be told that despite the fact that I had pre-paid, Expedia had oversold their inventory and I had no room as the hotel was overbooked/sold out. I realize that this was a very unique and stressful situation for all, and I am very appreciative that after waiting a couple of hours the front desk clerk did end up helping me get a room, which I was very appreciative of, but there were others in my same situation that were turned away that night, ie they were basically told we have no room for you so you need to leave, when they have also pre-paid for a room. Hopefully this situation never happens to anyone again, but in the future, if it does, the good customer service response would be to offer lobby space to those that had already pre-paid for a room and spent hours in a snow storm trying to get to the hotel at least a warm, dry space to hang out in the lobby for the night since they had already paid for a room, rather than just sending them back into the cold, dark, dangerous conditions to fend for themselves. I am quite sure several of them ended up having to sleep in their cars and I have no idea if they were even able to get anywhere else after that.
