Arden City Hotel - Special Class

flat out lies

They had me move to 3 different rooms. Room 1 - With this booming I was promised a room upgrade (if available), a bottle of wine upon arrival and such. None were offered. And the front desk told me it was NOT AVAILABLE. Shower door wouldn’t even close completely so water was all over the place. Their “rain shower” doesn’t even work. Room 2 - my check in review motivated their General Manager to move me to a room with working shower, so I guess upgrades were available after all - lie #1. Their Tv didn’t function correctly, Then GM began to blame the government blocking some American channels. Lie #2. I finally told him, after cutting me off several times in our conversations, the network was available in my previous room. Room 3 - their technical guy could not only figure out the satellite system, he left the tv completely disconnected. Therefore the GM moved me up to another less nicer room with working TV. It has a balcony, which allowed neighbors smoking smell to come into my room. Checking out, front desk wanted to assist me get a cab back to the airport. I cane in Uber so I were to do the same, except their Wi-Fi was clearly blocking Uber app. I asked them if they were doing that, he said no. So I disconnected their Wi-Fi and Uber app began working. Last lie of the stay. Their pictures do not match what I experienced. See mine. Unfortunate that the GM is the person who is dragging down this hotel because their main bell man was a great gent.

Nice location. All went good for about 5 days of the stay. It was noticed the room was not very clean, but can tolerate it. The weird/bad part of my stay was last day I came back to the hotel earlier than other days as I planed to lunch near the hotel, took the elevator went to my floor then bang! my room is open with 2 NON HOTEL employees working whit the room, changing the air conditioning, loots of dirt in the floor, the unit they were replacing was sitting in my wife's pillow (bed and pillows were quite uncomfortable...) no personnel from the hotel supervising they just left those persons there with my stuff, this is completely unacceptable, not a VIP hotel for sure if they can't even respect the fact you rent a room (that among other services is a hotel, right?) no! so they saw I normally get back to the hotel at late night so they took the chance!!! first time I have an experience like this in a hotel, you can expect this from hostels or something like that but should not happen in a 4 star hotel... after I actually understood that was my room they were at, I walk under the ladder of there person working, called reception, like 6 or more persons came to the room, I push them all out from the room, they cleaned a little then an apology bla, bla... the room was covered in dust, the bed as well, etc... you can imagine. Hopefully we had only 18 hours left on the hotel before depart to IST, how can you trust after that?

There was a very pleasant terrace bar, which was largely empty. We were very well looked after by the manager up there, his attention to service and detail was excellent. We had one of us in a sofa bed where there was no proper blanket/ duvet (temp 5-10 degrees outside). Should not have had to ask but when I did I was told the hotel had no more! Even though clearly not full. I complained and asked to speak to person in charge who seems to have asked whether I wanted one from another room. Frankly I didn’t mind where it came from. Had to take our quilt downstairs to show what I needed, eventually went to the house keeping cupboard with man no 1, where there was indeed another quilt! He then came to put the cover on and left the wrapper on the floor. Thankfully we didn’t need anything else!

The hotel is in a very busy corner so noise is expected early in the morning especially the honking of the taxis. The staff is very helpful but unfortunately for them, the internet is the slowest I ever experienced. You can walk to the major tourist attractions, take a taxi or the train.

Personal service in this extremely clean well situated small hotel Staff excellent particularly Ali in the terrace restaurant. The decor was a little tired.
