Pay$ get the suites, beware pool, bring your booze
The hotel is beautiful and huge and on our 1st 4 night stay the hotel room and staff were fantastic, although long lines at check in and out. Our suite on the 3rd floor was everything we hoped for. The bar pool cascaded down to the other two and it was nice. Even though I am an avid swimmer I didn't swim much due to all the water flowing down from the bar pool, if you know what i mean. Also, it is very crowded on weekends.
Now to our second 1 night hotel stay, compliments of American Airlines due to a overnight delay because of weather. We were taken back to Riu Guanacaste because it’s the largest hotel in the area even though it’s a 50 minute drive away. We asked for our old room back but were rudely told 'other people have checked in '. Ok. We were given a room on the 3th floor but it was just another hotel room which was alright considering the circumstances. But the A/C didn’t work (which is unforgivable with the heat and humidity). Also, the ceiling fan made loud noises. When my husband called and complained he was told 'aren't you one of the canceled flight people'? He answered 'yes, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have a/c!' He eventually had to go downstairs to the front lobby, in the rain, and tell them he wanted a new room. We finally got one and put our things all back in the suitcases and dragged our bags to the new room at 9 pm knowing we have to get up again at 230 am to catch the bus for the 50 minute drive back to airport. Exhausted!
