Almost perfect only catering a disappointment

Beautiful setting, clean hotel. Taking covid seriously. Unfortunately spa closed, which we didnt know on booking Disappointed with options for gluten free meals, one has to have what is naturally gluten free on the menu rather than being catered for, e.g. i was offered burger without the bun, haddock without the sauce, breakfast without the sausage, pudding without the biscuits, you probably get the picture. No offer to actually make something gluten free. Afternoon tea is a different story, they do cater for gluten free however the scone literally was crumbs as soon as it was cut, had to eat with a spoon! I had already checked agead that they could cater so this was a disappointment The room we had was amazing, the reception staff friendly. Grounds are lovely and the hotel is close enough to many attractions. Need to check your bill on checking out, we paid up front for breakfast but were charged for it. The hotel said this was to do with expedia only we didnt book through them. Really enjoyed our stay and would definitely go again. The lady on reception at check in was so welcoming and upgraded our room, never ever had an upgrade and this was such a treat after working solidly as key workers since March so huge thank you. Would love to stay again and really hope they take on board what we have said then this would be top marks.

We had room number 24 with 2 windows and balcony with views over lake and garden. Lovely setting very comfortable. Will definitely book again.

Very disappointed. The hotel has no spa facilities but is still charging and advertising as a 4 star hotel and spa. The junior suite was also very tired with paint pealing off the walls and the bathroom was dated with mould around the shower door. On Sunday morning there was no heating or hot water. When we reported this to reception we were told the boiler had broken. At no time did the staff think it would be courteous to make the guests aware of this before being plunged in a freezing cold shower. I don’t recommend this hotel and will never book another visit. In fact we checked out a day early and moved to another hotel.

Very enjoyable family weekend

We had a really lovely two night stay for a family celebration. The staff were all lovely - couldn't have been more helpful. The rooms were comfortable. The food was very good. We think the chef must have a great palate as everything we had was very tasty indeed. And in these difficult times they were all doing their best to keep everyone safe with distancing rules, masks worn and hand sanitiser readily available. Thank you all.

Beautiful Hotel

Beautiful hotel, we stayed in room no.24 it had a huge comfortable bed and a balcony over looking the lake. We will definitely return

A lovely country hotel, albeit a bit tired

As with a lot of these "country house" type of properties, the decoration can be a bit tired. That was the case here. Our Junior Suite, located in the stable block was OK, but the bathroom and fittings were clearly over 20 years old. The shower was an over the bath type and had very little pressure - I believe the head may have needed cleaning. The windows in our room were all quite dirty and had clearly not been cleaned at any time since before lockdown. I also believe that the hotel were trying to save money, which is clearly going to be an irritant to guests. For example, we had a 3 night stay and were told that due to COVID the room would not be cleaned and the beds made up. We were delighted to hear that. However, when we entered the room we found 2 bottles of water and a selection of coffee sachets and tea bags with just one small carton of milk each. So basically enough for hot one cup of beverage. So for the 2 subsequent nights I had to visit reception to ask for more water, more breakfast tea bags and more milk. Maybe some people wouldn't bother hence my comment regarding saving money? It wouldn't be rocket science to leave enough provisions for 3 nights. It seems strange that this situation created by the hotel then means more unnecessary walking around the hotel with masks on. The COVID precautions were very good. All the staff wore masks at all times as did the guests whilst walking around the hotel inside.
