Sydney Bondi Beachside Inn YHA - Hostel

Brilliant

Great location but carpets and drapes very worn and a little smelly. Bathrooms could have been cleaned more frequently as there were in continuous use for showering etc. Good rooftop deck and courtyard for socializing but access to wifi limited to lobby and dining room.

This place would have been a good value for $20/night, but for close to $90 it was kind of ridiculous to pay this much. The room itself was nice - thin mattress, but private and what we expected, and the service was very friendly. However, the good pretty much stops there. The shared bathroom was very dirty, had no ventilation so it smelled, and half the time didn't have toilet paper. The common areas were also fairly dirty, and they nickeled & dimed us for every service. The "free" wifi is only in the lobby/common room and isn't very fast, so you could upgrade for $5 per day to have it in your room. Towels were $1 each. You can use the kitchen but have to put in a deposit on all silverware and dishware. These are smaller issues that we could put up with, but with the amount we paid for this place we expected it to at least be clean.

Friendly, inexpensive, two blocks from the beach. Two blocks in the opposite direction to stores food and bars.

Near beach, common kitchen room congested. Bedroom congested. Need refurbish

Good stay at the price point. Well located. Reasonably clean and maintained. Would recommend in case you are on a really tight budget/ just the experience of staying in a hostel/ mix around with other folks

Shower was a bit mouldy. The facility listing of parking doesn’t mean they have a car park. It means you have to drive around the streets to find one. I arrived late at night and there wasn’t much left. I was only there overnight and unfortunately didn’t get to see much of any others of the facilities. Also take note if you are planning on leave before 8am. It looks like it has to be pre-organised with reception.

The room was clean but there were cockroaches. The window jammed open at about 10cm and couldn't be opened further or closed. The curtains covered only about 60% of the window so room in daylight at sunrise. A little disappointing for close to $100 per night considering the same money gets a fully furnished self contained unit on the Gold Coast. The room was basic but functional and the staff great. I would stay again despite above but only if the price was around $60 a night. Its not worth $100.

Pros: Good location, 10 minute walk to Bondi and 5 to nearest beach (Tamarama); good staff; nice surfer-themed atmosphere; great views from rooftop deck. Cons: No air-conditioning.
