Red Lion Hotel

Ok stay. Noise from road. Bed a little uncomfortable. Room and bathroom clean. Unable to work at desk as no light at table and no overhead light, only lights near bed. Convenient for train station to central london

Let down by staff who couldn't care less, should have been told there was the loudest party in history taking place-courteous at least to be told when it would end.

Bed not made up, no towels in room and no tea bags! Room was fine and food was good

We had been to the Harry Potter Studio Tour and wanted somewhere local to stay. Im not a fan of hotel chains and this pub with rooms was perfect. Really excellent service. Great food in the pub. Breakfast freshly cooked to order and delicoius. My room was fabulous with a huge very comfy bed and massive drench shower. Reccommended.

We came to the area to attend the memorial service/celebration, of an old school friend and so our stay was literally, just overnight and to attend the function as we had to return home later the next day. The staff were kind and friendly, helpful, and the room was spotlessly clean. We were helped with our luggage and we had a nice homely meal in the evening being the only people in the restaurant, as everyone else was in the bar area. It was as near perfect for our needs as we are fit and active people. the chef di not report for work on the Sunday morning, and so the manager himself cooked our breakfast! Well good for him, he deserves praise as I think many would have said sorry, the service is not available due to staff shortages! But he rolled up his sleeves and did us a cooked breakfast. Had very nice meal and breakfast and hotel has great staff.

The hotel was in the ideal location for our visit and the room was very warm, which on a cold night, was pleasing as well. The car park was virtually full and maybe too small for the no. of rooms. Parking in side streets looked pretty challenging also. After a nice stay the only real disappointing thing was the service at breakfast where we had to wait 45mins for our cooked food, with no toast having been offered (after we heard others being offered it) ... as we checked out 20mins later, there was a couple who had been waiting an hour for theirs! Shame really.

Good location for our visit to Warner Bros Studios. Clean, comfortable and good value for money including free parking.

We've stayed at this hotel a number of times over the last few years. There has been no refurbishment of the rooms (we've stayed in several of them more than once) in that time. They've become more and more tired, shabby and dirty. Last two times the curtains were hanging off the rails and did not close (the same room, so no repairs though we reported it). This time the room (a superior) was just plain dirty. There are stains in many places on the walls and carpets though bed linens and towels were clean. We've stuck with it as price has been reasonable and location is great for M1 and A1 and direct trains to London. Previously the staff have also been great. This time, no-one answered the phone to give access code to car park. When I went into the hotel the receptionist was on the phone while a child was playing around her and talking to her. We could not book in because the computer had crashed. This time the price was higher than the Laura Ashley just a mile or two away, which also fits the location criteria.Now the Red Lion is just to shabby, dirty and expensive to make up for the location. Alas no more.

Rooms were well modernised about 5 years ago, but now looking a bit tired. Secondary glazing poor - let in noise and draughts. Housekeeping staff not great. English breakfast ok, but everything else on the menu was “not available”. All-in-all, a bit amateur and comfortable, but very over-priced.
