La Madeleine Grand Place Brussels

I picked this hotel because of the location in Grand Place. I also liked that a cafe was right next door. I found the staff very friendly and, because I was somewhat ill, let us check in early with no extra charge. They arranged for a taxi for us and did everything they could to help us. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The cafe next door served delicious food. I would stay there again.

Le Madeleine is an economical option conveniently located in Brussels between the Central Station and The Grand Place. Guests are entitled to a free small beverage and a 10% discount on meals purchased in the attached restaurant. The buffet breakfast is quite good, with lots of selection, but other than the chef salad, which was excellent, my other meals were mediocre. As with most old hotels in Europe the rooms are small And the windows are single pane glass, so it is noisy. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom clean, but the carpets are worn and stained. The day I arrived there dirty towels were left hanging on the door; the day I left there was no hot water. With a medium priced makeover this property could have the European charm that I look for, but sadly it misses the mark.

Location is great, everything else... not so good. The corridor is weirdly laid out and, if you get a certain room, you need to open multiple doors to get to a certain hallway. I had a double room which was really two twins pushed together. Bathroom was in poor condition with broken tiles and mold in the shower, and the bathtub faucet temperature gauge wasn't working properly. There were also no towel hooks which was weird, so I resorted to hanging wet towels on a chair. The complimentary shower gel and shampoo has an old musky scent, so I didn't use it. I was caught in the heatwave with 40 C weather, and having no AC in the room was terrible. The window is big, yes, but people in other rooms were smoking and I'm not sure if that's even allowed by the hotel. I'm usually not picky about hotels, but I really did not have a good experience at this one.

This hotel is not on the Grand-Place. The noise between rooms was a problem as other guests liked to play loud music during the night. The brasserie next door wasn't too competent (had to ask three times for the bill). Staff at reception were friendly

Room was super small, no air conditioning on hot days, window went to turret and not outside to provide any breeze. Very hot, loud room. Always hear guests around room coming and going at all hours, construction going on all day so you cannot sleep in or nap during day

Price/quality is good. A-class location, apart from that nothing special but that is reflected in the price.

This property was in an ideal location. Our room was fine, comfy clean beds, nice towels and AC. The staff was very professional and helpful. It looks rough around the edges but I’m very glad we stayed there.
