Canberra Rex Hotel & Serviced Apartments

The rooftop Howling Moon Bar is amazing. Food was very good and service great. Very popular as you watch the sunset turn into a lighting storm over the hills.

We love the "Rex"! The staff are delightful, the rooms are beautifully presented and the beds incredibly comfy. The food, drinks and the service was impeccable. The location is close to all of the sights, excellent shopping, great restaurants and has public transport practically at the front door. Honestly, we can't recommend this place enough.

Recommend a Crown Suite or above to ensure a spacious room. Comfortable appointed room with separate bedroom and spacious bathroom facilities including two large screen TV's. Very limited on-site free car parking and availability depends on whether functions / conferences are being conducted. Parking is available in adjoining street. A 15 min walk to variety of local dining. On-site 6th floor 'Howling Moon' bar and restaurant was pleasant with casual bar on 5th floor. Service was good. Have stayed before and will stay again.

My partner and I had a great stay, staff were friendly and the rooms were immaculate and super clean. Just a note that their elevators are not centered on each floor and the rooms can be quite far especially our room with the balcony, it didnt bother us too much but just a heads for others with any pre existing conditions. The only real con is that parking is very limited, we opted to walk and take the tram to the city centre just so we could keep our spot but other than that everything was great

Beautiful, clean room. Sunset at the bar/restaurant is a highlight. Very nice!

Customer service was good all round. Got my room key and went upstairs. Room was 2 singles instead of the king bed. Disappointed I had to carry my gear to reception again for another key. Would have been nice to be met by someone upstairs. No chain on the door of the new room but there was one on the other room. No do not disturb sign although the book on the table says there should be one. Smoke alarm has a led light that is above your bed that shines in your eyes every few seconds. Buzzing noise inside the room and outside. Slept with ear plugs and eye mask. Woken by sounds of drilling and hammer. No complimentary water in the fridge. Was told 2 weeks prior to booking as well as on the morning of departure that there was a quick breakfast like a muffin and proper latte coffee on level 6. Dropped my gear out to the car and noticed I had to dodge the drug needles so as to not pierce my shoes then dodge the dead run over rats. Told reception about the needles and it didn't even raise an eyebrow but the rats did. Guessing the drug users are a regular occurrence especially considering the bright lights in the carpark all night. Went to level 6 at 9.45am. Place was a ghost town with the staff in the kitchen. Had a chat to one lady who said they've never offered quick breakfasts like muffins. She went and made a phone call straight away to correct her. Overall the hotel isn't a cheap stay and the comments above would be reflected by a much cheaper hotel.

Would like it if there was complimentary water available in the fridge

While a clean place, the housekeeping was quite late doing the rooms, as late as 2-3:30pm which could be annoying to some. Onsite parking is typically open air parking, and was nearly all full when I was there, not helped that some spaces at the rear of the property were blocked by construction. It is about a 15 minute walk to Civic/the city or Dickson, which unless you want the nearest service station (a bit closer), are indeed the closest shops. Light rail line and stop right near the front door does help to get around if you don't want to use your car, though Canberra public transport can be a but confusing for some.

Very clean; easy walk to the city centre; staff were pleasant and helpful; roof top bar was great - need to book early though as often booked out.
