Rooms functional but a bit dated.Parking directly outside courtyard rooms is a bonus for any disabled visitors and access to the main entrance is easy. The city of Durham ,Beamish Museum and The Auckland Project are all within less than half an hour’s drive. Although just off a busy road the courtyard rooms are quiet with a rural view at the rear . I would use this hotel again. "

Rooms were large and comfortable and had everything we needed. Breakfast was amazing and the staff were very helpful."

"This is a hotel with real character. Built as a civic building in 1905, the hotel owner totally renovated the guest rooms but retained the beautiful interiors along the corridors, in the restaurant, etc. In the guest rooms, there is a rarity -- lots of electrical outlets! Also, as this building was built solid, guest rooms are quiet -- you hear nothing from the next room. All the staff (check in, restaurant, cleaners) were very helpful and pleasant. I would stay here again. "
