We arrived at the hotel entrance – which was unmarked and sandwiched between two other businesses, making it difficult to spot – with no instructions on how to enter. We called the number provided with the booking confirmation… no answer.
Eventually a woman let us in, apparently much to her annoyance, and told us she had no record of our booking. Amazingly, she seemed to be blaming us for that.
The woman disappeared for a while before returning to take us to our room, which looked nothing like the one pictured; this was drabber, less tidy and generally in far worse condition. The ‘canal view’ we were promised was actually a small view of an alleyway, while the other window had litter wedged up against the outside of it. The WiFi didn’t work, and when we asked the member of staff about it, she rudely informed us that she didn’t have time to fix the problem and that she ‘wasn’t an engineer’ anyway. Furthermore, the bed was uneven and uncomfortable, probably broken, and there were no towels provided – not even a hand towel in the shared bathroom, which also lacked a mirror…
We were treated with no respect or courtesy and were misled about the room, its view and the WiFi. This was, by some distance, the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Yes, it was cheap, but you don’t have to spend much more to stay at a hotel that delivers on its promises, offers basic amenities and treats its guests like, well, guests.
