Exceptional but with tiny unpleasant stains…
A bit outside Helsinki city centre, Valo is an excellent choice for a relaxed stay. Rooms are pretty small (on the excuse that visitors never use the total surface of a room even if it’s big (!!)). Breakfast is of high quality but poor in variety. Coffee machine for cappuccino, latte, etc is hidden and you have to look for it. Generally the hotel’s approach is “we have everything, but we don’t offer it to you, you have to ask for it”. That was the case also with VIP privileges that I never got. No 2hours late checkout offered. No room upgrade. Wellness area is terrific and can be really a joy to pamper yourselves when it’s not invaded by groups that occupy the open air jacuzzi sipping champagne from glass flutes (glass material in sauna and jacuzzi is really so dangerous!!!). Although there’s the rule of max. 15’ use of the jacuzzi, no one controls, so you have to be lucky to find a place during evening hours. All in all a very good hotel with a stiff and inflexible customer service.
