The hotel lobby gives off a great first impression, but unfortunately, the rooms don’t live up to the photos. They’re in dire need of an upgrade, and the towels in the room felt very worn—possibly the same ones used at the pool. Service was mediocre at best; it’s clear that exceptional hospitality isn’t a priority here.
We previously stayed at a mid-tier hotel in La Fortuna, and the difference was striking. Perhaps that raised our expectations too high for La Mariposa, but ultimately, it didn’t measure up.
For example, on our first day, we waited over 30 minutes for a drink at an empty bar. On the second day, I ordered ice to the room around 5 PM. After an hour of waiting, I had to call back, only to be told it was on its way—it seems they had forgotten altogether.
For the price, I’d recommend exploring other options.
