I recently stayed at Avid Hotel Brooklyn Dyker Heights, and unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant. The building has a strong odor of fresh concrete, which made it uncomfortable from the moment I stepped inside. But that’s not the worst of it—my room reeked of mold, which poses serious health risks and can cause issues like respiratory problems and even cancer.
The bathroom is equipped with what seems to be the cheapest toilet on the market. It took multiple flushes just to get it to work properly after using it. On top of that, the small fridge in my room was extremely noisy, making it hard to sleep. I found layers of dust around the area and will be attaching a picture of it for reference.
The hotel staff was unhelpful and appeared disengaged. Most of the time, they were on their phones, seemingly playing games rather than assisting guests. When I reached out to the manager about the loud AC noise in my room, he told me he was with his family and couldn’t do anything to help.
The location of the hotel is another issue. It’s only about 100 feet from a busy freeway, so be prepared for constant noise from traffic. I’ll share pictures of the view from my room to show how disruptive it was. Furthermore, the area around the hotel was unsafe, with homeless and mentally unstable individuals who were acting aggressively.
Overall, I was incredibly disappointed with my stay. I expected a certain level of comfort and service from an IHG property.
