We were looking for a short drive long weekend destination to celebrate our engagement this September and wanted somewhere where we could stay at the resort/hotel/cabins t or around the resort grounds for most of the long weekend, looking for somewhere that had a restaurant that served breakfast, lunch, and dinner, had activities on the grounds, and a pool and was less than a four hour drive from our location north of Pittsburgh.
Coolfont definitely looked to fit the bill, advertising many outdoor activities and extensive grounds to walk around and enjoy. Here is a list of pros and cons we found during our long weekend stay September 27-29.
Pros:
Check In and Restaurant staff were great. Friendly but not overly so, helpful, and enjoyable. The waitress we had for our celebratory dinner on Friday night was especially nice and made our dinner special.
We stay in the cabins and they were a nice surprise. We had a deluxe cabin for the two of us, but four more people could have easily stayed with us. The stairs needed to be swept, had a lot of dog hair, and the drain of the whirlpool tub off the master suite was filled with hair, but other than that the cabin was very clean and very comfortable.
We heard people complaining that the salt water swimming pool was too cold, but we found it refreshing. I thought having it indoors was nice because it's a great activity for the colder months too.
