My Place had helpful, yet subdued, receptionists & was reasonably priced. To be fair, I was not looking for a luxury hotel because I knew I’d be spending very little time in any one room. My priorities were cleanliness & a comfortable bed & pillows, and all three were definitely fulfilled.
For anyone with greater expectations or planning to spend more time in London, My Place may present a few issues. Coffee in the morning, for example, was instant only, although I enjoyed the warm croissants the workers offered.
While the double occupancy rooms were more spacious, I stayed in a single room where I didn’t have the space to open my suitcase & also walk freely within the square footage the room had to offer. I ended up putting a chair in the hallway & pushing an armoire & a refrigerator against the wall to leave enough space for an open suitcase (leaving a 1-foot clearance to walk around it).
The hot water in my room did not work late one evening, & I suggested the option of showering in an unoccupied room. Despite being across the hall from my room, it took about 40 mins for the clerk to grant me that option (although I am very grateful she did). The light above the bathroom sink flickered on and off often and rapidly, & turning it off seemed to be the only solution (the bathroom had two lights, thankfully).
The hotel was located only about a quarter block from the tube station, a very practical solution for a tourist who enjoyed the amazing sights of London.
