Quirky Charm but Room for Improvement
We recently stayed at this hotel for one night (Saturday) and paid £90, including breakfast. The main hotel itself is charming, with quirky historical decor and good parking, located in a nice area. The staff were friendly and welcoming, adding to the positive first impression.
However, our room was very basic and dated, which we expected for the price, but a few maintenance issues made the stay less comfortable. Neither of the bedside lamps worked, the hand soap dispenser was missing a proper hanger, and the bath had visible rust. The room was also very warm, with no way to adjust the temperature or a fan provided.
The biggest drawback was the lack of WiFi. While the staff mentioned it was a temporary issue, reviews suggest this has been an ongoing problem. The mobile signal was also poor, which could be frustrating for those staying longer or needing internet access.
On a positive note, breakfast was a highlight! There was a nice continental selection to help yourself to, and a hot breakfast menu with options like a full English, avocado toast, and smoked salmon.
Overall, it’s a characterful place with great breakfast and friendly staff, but improvements in room quality, temperature control, and reliable WiFi would make it a much better stay.
