When it comes to shopping in Dubrovnik, you’ll be forgiven for thinking that, compared to the history, beauty and culture of the area, it’s not one of the city’s strong points. Granted, it’s no New York, London or Milan, but there’s far more in the way of shops than you might initially think.
Whether you’re looking for designer boutiques, unique homeware, traditional markets or bigger shopping malls, Dubrovnik does actually have it all. It’s got its fair share of souvenir shops too, of course – from authentic, handmade crafts and delicacies…to classic fridge magnets and replica Iron Thrones. Here’s our pick of the best places to spend your kuna.

Take a wander along Stradun, the Old Town’s main street, and discover the most vibrant shopping area of the city. Visitors flock from far and wide to experience the Old Town charm within the ancient city walls, so it’s no wonder there are so many great shops to be found here too.
On the hunt for gifts for loved ones back home? Or perhaps you just want a treat or 2 for yourself? You’ll find everything from designer clothes shops and independent boutiques, to jewellery shops, art galleries and, of course, plenty of souvenir shops (some traditional and some…not so much). Be sure to check what shops are hidden down Stradun’s narrow side streets, too, so as not to miss some gems.

Located at the end of Gruž Bay, Shopping Minčeta is easily accessible from Lapad and about a 30-minute walk from the Old Town. Although, you might want to hop on a bus back if you’re planning on some big purchases – routes 6, 3 and 1A go past Pile Gate.

When it comes to shopping on holiday, nothing beats browsing the stalls of a local, open-air market, and Gruž Market is the best place in Dubrovnik to do just that. This market near the main port is less about gifts and souvenirs and more about fresh, local produce. Selling the finest fruits, vegetables and fish (brought over daily from the Elaphiti Islands), it’s where you’ll find all the residents, not just visitors to the city.
Much larger and less crowded than the Old Town market, Gruž Market is a great place to experience the Croatian way of life. If you want to pick up some fresh and tasty goods for yourself, be sure to get there early, before the best stuff goes!
