The Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio seeks to educate the public about the events and mindset that led to the Holocaust and to foster an awareness of those same dangers that exist today. Although the museum itself opened in May 2000, Holocaust education in the area began much earlier through the vision of the Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation.

The council helped develop a programme for high schools called the Holocaust History Project, which contained a documentary film, a visit to classrooms from a Holocaust survivor, and educational information for teachers. The programme was offered at no cost to any interested schools.
